The water system has more than 23 miles of lines that distributes water to our citizenry and businesses alike. The City plans the installation of an Automated Weather Operating System (AWOS) at the airport within the next couple of years. This will make pilots privy to a wealth of weather related information at the airport, which will hopefully increase air traffic. Other plans include the expansion of our turnarounds and the construction of new T-hangers for airplane storage within the next few years.

    Eureka Lake (620) 583-5858

Eureka City Lake is located on the eastern edge of the scenic Flint Hills. Region in Southeast Kansas. Native tall grass prairie comprises most of the lake's drainage basin and helps maintain 32-inches of water transparency. The lake is located four and one-half miles north of the City of Eureka. Construction of the lake was completed in 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, Civilian Conservation Corps, and the City of Eureka. Their craftsmanship is still evident in the native limestone inlaid dam, spillway, picnic shelters, and entrances. The lake was constructed for the purpose of flood control, civic water supply, and recreation. Although Eureka no longer uses the lake as its primary water supply, it still serves as water augmentation.

The 259 acre lake is surrounded by 578 acres of city owned and managed property. It has over 130 lots which are licensed annually for residential development. 17 public access areas are strategically placed around the Lake comprising 1.7 miles of shoreline, not including the dam. The remaining 3.5 miles of shoreline are privately controlled. Public amenities include two boat ramps, four docks, two fish cleaning stations, three picnic shelters, eight primitive toilets, one handicap accessible toilet, a playground, a heated fishing dock, and a nature trail. One of the most beautiful features about this lake is the incredible 30-foot tall waterfall bellow the spillway. It truly is a sight to see.
