Folks with a stake in the future of Eureka

In 1857, a cattleman named Edwin Tucker bought a grassy field between a spring and a river in the Kansas Frontier for $50 and started the Eureka Townsite Company. From that point on, Tucker devoted his life to making his investment (and Eureka) grow and prosper. Tucker and other “Town Fathers” marketed Eureka much like a coming circus attraction, posting flyers around the nation inviting settlers to come to their fledgling town.

If the town needed a butcher, the Fathers would recruit one, perhaps even giving him stake money to get started. When the town needed a school, the Fathers built one, and Tucker was one of the early teachers.

Now, over 150 years later, few of the descendants of the original town fathers (and mothers) remain. A new generation has taken the banner in Eureka, with all the enthusiasm and energy of the original founders.

Some are here to start a new life and new ventures, some come to raise their kids in a place without worry, other to retire in a place that simply feels like home. All of them want Eureka not just to survive, but prosper under their watch.

These people have decided Eureka will not go quietly into the night. These people have driven stake in Eureka and decided that they will prevail or fail, together.

These are the people of the Eureka Foundation.

The Foundation embodies the spirit of those early founders, driving Eureka toward prosperity with hard work, clever minds and endless optimism – making history by grabbing the bull by the horns and making Eureka happen -no whiners allowed.
