$400,000 CDBG Grant awarded to Eureka
Money to be used for neighborhood revitalization
January 04, 2010
The City of Eureka received notice on January 4th, 2010 that we had been successful in our application for a neighborhood revitalization CDBG Grant. Great! We here at the city offices worked hard for this and had been waiting for the results. It was a real relief to find that we were awarded these funds. Of course they always leave themselves a way out, in this case the funds are "contingent upon receipt of funds from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development".
The neighborhood revitalization grant provides funds for housing improvement in a specific target area identified in the grant application. This area is located East of the City Park and South of River St. City employees have already contacted the home owners in the area to fill out pre-applications for the grant and take their suggestions as to what type of repairs would be the most beneficial. The money will be used for things such as windows, roofs, sewers and other structural repairs. Remodel items such as new carpet or cabinets are not included.
Hopefully work will begin by summer and we will see some real improvements on some deserving homes.
